Get the engine/transmission complete with harness, sensors and computer.
That's what's typically done.

From what I've heard and gathered from my own considerations, the LT1 isn't a "bolt-in", but is better than other possibilities. Just going from V6 to simple V8 can lead to headaches.
About the only thing that can reduce headaches is $'s. Of course, getting the $'s can be its own source of headaches.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well. LT1 will be easier than LS1. Either one is best done having all needed parts from a complete donor car. Non-CC carb is typically easier but LT1 & LS1 FI systems are simply awesome.
The wanting is typically more exciting than the having. We're usually happier when working towards something than we are when we have everything.
Decide what you're willing to work towards and either do it, or don't. Either way, don't complain about it.

Now finish your vegetables if you want dessert...
(I've had my car for 32 years, and I still don't have it close to what I would call my "ideal". But, it's closer now than it ever has been. That also means the Camaro isn't getting what I would like done to it...)
