What do I need to do a 305 TPI - 350 TPI swap?

Okay, what all will I need to get this done? I need to keep it smog legal too.

The heads will be AFR 195's with a compression ratio between 9.5 and 10:1. Not decided on a cam yet, but the intake system will be the "Big-Mouth" system from TPiS using a 58mm throttle body and their air foil. I'll also be running a "chip" from JET that I'll order after I've got everything else figured out.

I'm sure I'll need bigger injectors, what size? What else?

Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated.

What year is your TPI?

Basically you need a 350.

The 58mm TB is probably more than you need - 52mm would be fine in most cases (the Ram Jet 502 uses a 48mm TB).

Don't overdo it on the injectors. 22 lb work in most cases with an AFPR.

Keep the cam reasonable, something that is intended for EFI.

You'd probably be better served spending the money getting your own PROM burning equipment rather than somebody else's guess at a chip.

It's an 86' Z/28... I guess I should have made that clear huh? My bad!

Anyhow, I just read the tech article about the injectors and how an adjustable fuel pressure regulator would be a great benefit along with 22# injectors, for a 350, so I gues I'll do that.

Just 52mm? That might give me a bit more Torque anyhow huh?

As for the chip, I know everyone likes to burn their own chips but what if I'm not all that into the idea, what about the Motorvation custom chips? You send them ALL your specs and they custom burn a chip for you. True, they are nearly $400 but I don't know...

I'll post the cam as soon as I decide which to go with.

The block is a 638 roller block from a 5.7L 86' TPI Z/28. It'll have a bit more compression than stock due to the aluminum heads and being .030" over but that shouldn't be a bad thing at all. I know aluminum heads don't raise your compression, but I also know it's a good idea to bump your compression up about .5 when going from CI to AL, so I'm doing that.

How much RWHP y'all think I could be seeing with a free flowing exhaust? ... I so hope this thing will pass smog, that's my major concern!

Thanks again!

"638 roller block from a 5.7L TPI Z/28" - these all say '87-later. http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm Not a biggie, just a detail.

I can't claim to be a chip burner - I don't have a TPI personally. But, from listening to guys on these boards and those I know, you're better off getting the equipment and learning it yourself. Just the price of one chip you quoted is more than the equipment. And, they aren't likely to be able to get it "right", even if you have them do it over.

Yeah, I know what MorTec says, but I aslo know the car it came out of as being a late 86' IROC-Z w/ TPI. Apparently a rare car. The block is complete minus the intake, heads and roller lifters. The engine came out due to a cracked head... very minor crack.

Burn the chip myself eh? Well, seeing how I have nothing to go off of, would it be a good idea to get a stock chip to use as a baseline? And if so, how would I go about getting one? I guess now I'll need a laptop too huh? Oh well, one more loose end I guess.
