Rebuild or Swap??

Hey guys

I bought an 85 TA which looks pretty good but then engine has a horrible knocking and im sure it will die on me soon. It also has a leak somewhere in the intake. It whistles real loud.

I was wondering what would be the best/cheapest thing to do?

Get the 305 it has in rebuilt
Get an L98 350
Get a LT1 from a 95 TA

what do you guys suggest?

I was also wondering if i would have to modify anything to get either the LT1 or the L98 in

With 350 cores as cheap and plentiful as they are, I would not recommend rebuilding a 305 core.

It might be a good idea to figure out exactly what's wrong with it though, before just plowing ahead into a yank and rebuild. Especially if it works. You might find it's something simple and stupid, like somebody bottomed it out and bent the oil pan, or it needs a flex plate, or something dumb like that.
