my that was fun
There's nothing like that first ride after a project is done. I drove it around before but that was just around the block to make sure the wheels didn't fall off. The car had no front end and no lights. last night I finished putting the body and electrical back together and took it out for a good spin. The LT1 sure feels a lot better than that cheesy make believe 305. It lit the tires from a 10 mph roll with an automatic.
I like it.
I just need to work on the transmission program a little to improve the shift points, the stock roadmaster shift points were designed to not scare old people.
Thanks to TexasLT1 and Pasky and everyone else here for the encouragement and support.

I got that feeling the first time I drove the LG4 after the mods ( https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=32656 - except there's no doubt now that it won't leave the '57 in the dust).
I can only imagine what it would be like with a "real" engine.
Well, there was that first launch at sea level in 2003 in the '57 which took my 60' times from 2.3's at 5800' elevation to 2.0's. And that first launch in 2003 after putting the 3500 stall converter that took my 5800' 60' from 2.2's to 1.9's...

I can't wait until I get that grandpa style shift programming out and put something good in. The thing won't downshift unless it's going really slow and the forced upshift is ruining my attempts at a nice smoky burnout. I have a shift map from a 9C1 caprice, I'll try that. It shows it will do 4th gear at full throttle.

Hey, no offense taken (none was assumed). I wasn't even thinking about your comment when I made mine. I was thinking about the dream of having an LT1 or even a "regular" 350.
I'm well aware of the limitations of the 305. As I said back in 2001, a 350 would perform better, but not if I had put in a 350 and spent no more than I did on the 305.
I often bench-race the "air-350" with my current mods...

Kick *** serpent. Glad to hear you got the beast cruising now. As far as your shifting tables, this is for the 94-95 Camaro PCM's, but perhaps it may work on yours:

thanks for the linkage my ninja friend. Yeah, these motors got plenty of torque. This same motor hauls my wifes large roadmaster wagon down the 1/4 in 16 seconds flat at 90 mph in it's stock form.
I tried that performance mode trick, I can see the bit changing in the transmission program but the mode don't change. It wouild be so cool to have 2 shift maps

Hmmm, perhaps it is only for the camaro's then. The trans ams actually got a button to flip it on or off. Believe the 96-97 f-bodies came with it standard.

Lt1edit is what he uses but I hear (don't know never used) Tunercat will do the same and is cheaper to buy.
OR
you can reflash to a Z or TA flash

Congrats Serpent! I have been following your posts like a lemming going to the sea and you do some of the most creative things with nothing- such as your Jeep cherry picker, the Jeep istself (the pics you hosted "expired" so I can't marvel at them anymore.
One day I will be around Augusta and will look you up.
I may PM you for some advice on various projects, just curious, are you some type of fabricator of machinist by trade?

My pop used to own a junkyard. When I was little, all my best toys were the ones I made from parts in the junkyard. All my store bought toys got taken apart pretty fast. I started working as an auto mechanic when I was 14. *** gave me good hands and good mechanical horse sense. Right now I'm the east coast service manager for a place that makes industrial lasers.
