Short block is a block with rotating assembly (pistons/rods/crank) and camshaft

Long block is a short block with cilynder heads (some with the Intake)

Complete is the long block with injection, and accessories.

thats becasue a real shortblock doesnt have a cam and timing set..only the rotating assembly

the long block has the cam, timing set and heads...

that doesnt mean that companies couldnt do what they wanted

A shortblock typically does not include the cam. Hard to keep those lifter in without heads, rockers, pushrods (factory roller excepted).

Longblock typically includes tin but no manifolds. Sometimes includes balancer & flexplate, sometimes water pump, usually not, though.

But, these really are terms defined more by the user than by convention. So, make sure you know what you're paying for before handing over the plastic.

actually, i am selling a motor that i was building. as of now, it has the rotating assembly, cam and lifters in it. i have stock heads that i could bolt on, but i don't have an intake that would bolt on. i also have vortec heads that i was going to use on the motor. i have an intake manifold for, but i would need to get longer pushrods for it. i also have an oil pan, timing cover and balancer, but no waterpump or flexplate.
