LT1 potential

Hey if i was to drop a LT1 in my car...i would be running like mid/high 13's w/full suspension work and DR's and a car weighing about 3300 lbs. right?? What would i have to do to the motor...keeping it N/A to be able to run low 12's or high 11's...basically to pull modded ls1's. And how much would i proly end up putting into the car to complete the task...just need motor, tranny, and w/e mods.

I've heard stories of people using DR's, Cold Air, and long tubes to hit low 13's. Never seen a LT1 do it in person though.

Check out CamaroZ28.com and see what times people are running with their LT1 and bolt-on mods. Afterall, its not like the LT1 intake need mods to flow! Porting helps, but nowhere near as restrictive as TPI is.

With simple bolt ons I was 13.4 @ 104 mph no drag radials and a 3/4 full tank of gas..

that was dynoing at 289 hp 328 tq..

now with heads and cam dyno at 372hp and 360 tq.. have yet to go to the track, but I will never make any special prep for it, that is not in keeping with my philosophy of the buildup..

the thread is here

the numbers can be had easily enough..

the restriction for the LT1 is not the intake until you are trying for over 450hp to the wheels, mostly it is the heads and for us definitely headers.. CZ28.com at LT1 tech is where I spend some time, but be careful and do any research first, not all that is spoken there is gold..

I got into the low 13s on a 95Z with very few mods...4.10s, a good clutch, Flowmaster cat back, a march underdrive pulley, a larger fuel pump (190lph Mustang pump), and the front swaybar removed, so it shouldn't be too hard in a slightly lighter third gen. To run low 12s/high 11s on a stock bottom end NA isn't going to be easy, but you'll need ported heads and a good cam (I'd reccomend Gallant Technical Performance (GTP) out of Texas for both), longtubes, and a good bit of chassis work to get it all to the ground. Are you going 6 speed or auto?

I was going to stick w/an auto and put a vigilante converter in it, b&m megashifter, and a transgo kit. But if for some reason people dont think thats good enough i could always swap a 6 speed...dont really wanna but if its better its always an option

posted at the same time..

bolt on 12s would have been easy, all I would of needed would of been drag radials and a good 60 foot.. as it was the bolt-on 13.4 was with a 2.3 60 on street tires..

Honestly I think you'd be better off with what you've got...the vigilantes are awesome convertors. You won't have to deal with the crappy 4th gen clutches and mickey mouse hydraulics either.

a vigilante and shiftkit will give you better 60' times and be more consistent run to run, generally giving you better quarter mile times, a six speed will give you higher trap speeds and more hp to the ground.. it will also help you in any challenge from a roll..

both trannies have their limitations, depends on what you want, I managed to blow up my 4l60e in short order after it was in my car, the rear planetary just ground to dust.. it had a converter and transgo shiftkit in it..

the T56 won't hold repeated runs with the stock clutch without cooling down some.. but its internals are rated for and will hold higher hp and tq that a stock 4l60e..

for the power I have now I am putting a better clutch and lightened flywheel in mine this weekend.. I like grinding my own gears much better, the car in general was much more fun to drive.. but that is me, each to his own..
