A few LT1 swap Questions

I got an LT1 from a 94 Caprice police car from my work (junkyard) which looks as if it went off roading or in a ditch or something. Anyways, the engine is fine exept for the oil pan is kinda messed up but fixable. The transmission (4L60E) on the otherhand is toast, the bellhousing is broke almost all the way around so its not repairable, the flexplate is also bent.

I need a new flexplate and a new tranny. Can i go with a 700R4 and a matching flexplate? or does it have to be a 4L60E? Or can i put the 4L60E guts into a 700R4 case? How about a T5?

Now lets just assume i have a 1988 BMW 535i dash, instrument cluster, steering column, etc. Will there be any real problem getting the BMW guages to work with the LT1 stuff? And whats this about VATS? In-other-words, how would i go about making this LT1 run in a BMW 535i? (but its going into a Firebird)

I am also running 3.45:1 rear gears, should i change this to get more use out of 1st gear?

oh yeah, i should mention that i did NOT grab any of the wiring harness that goes into the actual car itself out of the caprice. All i grabbed was the engine wiring harness, fuse box and computer.

Sounds a little more believable. Why would you want to put a bmw dash in a firebird?

I'm just guessing here, but I bet BMW dash > Firebird dash.
Although an LT1 in a BMW would kick a$$ too.....

557i: You can use the 700r4 or T5. As for wiring, I think it will be a pain. I'd have the pcm reprogrammed to kill vats and emissions stuff. That will make it a little easier. Then its just a matter of connecting the wires. Maybe look into aftermarket tachs and speedos for a wiring kits.

The 700R4/4L60 and T5 will require you to do something about the pulse rate difference for the VSS, however either will bolt up no problem. As far as the gauges working, you'd need to find out what the input rate of the speedometer vss signal is if the speedometer doesnt have a cable, and probably need a pulse rate converter between the pcm and the speedometer, then the tach signal will probably be a 4 cyl or 6 for your bmw im guessing, so you'd need another convertor there, besides that you *should* be able to use the bmw sending units for the water temp and oil pressure gauges if they dont share the same range variance, the fuel level gauge may be another issue if the bmw used a different full / empty ohm value.

You'll also need a throttle body off of a 93 LT1 with auto and the TV cable assembly and cable to work with the 700r4.
