Ls2

Just wondering If anyone has brainstormed on dropping one of these into a Camaro/Firebird.

And also the Im trying to figure out something.
Does ford have a hidden model for the 2005 Mustang?
Cause all they are showing is a 300 HP 300 Torque 4.6
Which doesnt seem to stack up to anything that Chevy would put in the new camaro

The LS2 is so new you're not going to find one in a yard for a while. But when you do, it will be no different than dropping in an LS1, since its based off that engine. Should be a sweet swap though once some cars get into the yards.

As far as the Cobra and Lightning, for now SVT is gone and there is no more Cobra or Lightning. Not to say they couldn't be back though. The new Mustang isn't really meant to compete with anything. Since there is no Camaro/Trans-Am, the Mustang is pretty much on its own. Have to remember, not everyone who buys a car wants the maximum amount of horsepower possible. The new Stang will sell great to parents wanting to get their teenager a sporty car, or the older folks who want to "rejuvenate their youth." And it will sell like crazy.

And the Mustang is no competition for the GTO. Fastest times for the new Stang so far that I've seen has been 13.8 at 99. GTO is already running low 13's, high 12's on slicks.

you may have to swap oil pans to a F car pan.
other then that, it drops in the same as a LS1.

You will also have to adapt to throttle-by-wire. A GTO/vette accelerator pedal should help in that department.

This is a great point. Aftermarket companies should be coming out with the converstion to cable-less TB's for swaps soon.

The folks who make the custom wiring harnesses for the LT1 and LS1 swaps have already figured out a way to use the electronic pedals and throttle bodies.

Considering the LS2 you may as well do an LS1 swap.

Now the LS7, that's what I'm waiting for :hail:

And I think the new Cobra is scheduled for a 2006 release, 450hp, not 100% positive though.

Careful, it used to be a big block. One of the old LS5, LS6, and LS7 I think...

I'd just get an LS1 block, there are rumors starting to take off that the 3 valve heads that will be on the new LS7 will be able to bolt on to Gen 3 SBCs.

I know, I was just touching on what 92GTA was saying about the vintage LS engines.

Yea, but how would they actually work on an LS1 or LS6 or other originally-16v engine? The way the block is made, there are only holes for 16 lifters, not 24 like a 3 valve/cyl engine would need. I can't see how that would work unless you somehow had one pushrod operate two valves.

Exactly, fork the 2 intake valves off one pushrod, I think Ford has an engine like that.

I though the rumors about the new LS7 having 3 valves was proven wrong like a year ago

You guys are correct, one lifter/pushrod operates two valves.

I dunno... I always thought the LS-6 was the most powerful 454. It was making 450hp in the Camaro/Chevelle, and 460hp in the Corvette. I didn't think there was anything hotter than that available, unless maybe it was a option GM kept low-key, like the L88 and L89 in '67-69?

(Before you say "no 454 in the Camaro", there was one built and delivered before GM dropped the LS-6 RPO for the Camaro SS in 1970)
