92 TPI swap into 91 TBI dash wiring
Can anyone help? I'm swapping in a TPI into my 91 TBI Camaro. The dash wiring in my 91 TBI will plug right up to the 92 TPI harness, but I noticed some of the wires are in different locations. What do I do?

Two possible approaches:
1) Plug & hope.
2) Get the respective shop manuals and figure out what each wire does and whether it will make a difference.
I've not done that late of a swap, but from what I understand, it should plug & run.

I just finished doing this exact swap on my 92. Be a little more specific, and post pictures if possible. I don't quite understand what you mean, but I'll try to help you out.

The engine wiring harness plug that connects to the dash wiring harness plug, on the passenger side by the computer, plugs right in. Both plugs have exactly the same number of wires, but a couple of the wires are in different locations on the plugs. I don"t have any pictures, but I'll try to get you some. I had assumed the TPI, and TBI cars had the same dash wiring, but I guess they don't.

Now I get what you are saying. Your talking about that white /clear connector with about a dozen wires that runs behind the dash. If they are in different locations, you are going to have to repin one side of it to match the other. I suggest you don't touch your TPI harness, and repin the other side (the one in the dash). That way, your wiring would match the factory wiring, and it would be easier to track down a problem if you ever need to.
Before you do anything, I would write down what wire was in what location. That way, if you need to , you can put it back how it was.
In case your not sure what repinning means, its just pulling one wire out of its slot, and inserting it in another. Separate the harness plug with its dash plug. On the back of it were the wires come out, there should be some kind of plastic piece that is held down with some tabs. Gently free it from the tabs and lift it up. Now look at the end of the plug where the metal contacts are. Get a safety pin and insert it in a corner of the slot for it. It takes a little practice to get it right, but as soon as you hit the right spot, the wire will gently pull out. Then it will just snap into place when you insert it in another slot.
This all sounds complicated in writing, but its really very simple.

TRy to post some pictures of both ends of it. I would think that what you are talking about would show up in a Helms manual, but it definitely doesn't show up in Haynes or Chiltons.
I'll see if I go to my car later and see what each wire is and the color. They will most likely be the same for yours.
