Weak? By all means no. Reliable is my concern. How often does he drive it? I don't want to re-sleeve a motor if it takes a dump. I'll go with the tried and true.

Stock bottom end record is 9.64...That's stock rods and pistons... Harlan has a stock 5.7 block and crank. I'm sure it's race prepped but it aint no c5r and it 's not sleeved to my knowledge. BIG turbo.

Any time you deal with alum parts you have to be carefull with threads and such but the blocks are plenty strong to take what you dish on a regular basis and worth the weight savings IMO.

i dont know, my wifes ls1 only needed a .10 over and she drives it almost everyday and it put out over 600 on gas at mti. my point is that like any motor they have their quirks, but the aluminum 5.7 block is so much lighter then the boat anchor 6.0 or 5.3 . i picked up this 5.3 today and was like damn, i thought they were aluminum too, oh well, i think im gonna see what the machine shop says and go from there. i really just want to put a ls1 in my thirdgen because im tired of all the issues with the controls on my tpi, i would rather have coil packs and ls1 edit then the crap we have to deal with with tpi, i might be wrong and still put my 388 in my iroc, but i am gonna weigh the pros and cons on doing both

i think its a sleeved all bore then, i know it is suppose to be a 382 and there are two different ways to do that, stroker motor sleeved or stock crank and huge bore. either way it produces a ton of torque for them

maybe it was, but i heard from the guy who built it that it was a 382, just didnt know if it was a stroker or all bore. anyway, aluminum or iron, i would take the advantages of a ls1 over a tpi anyday

Just some FYI:

Their are aftermarket iron (LS1) blocks now, too. In case
nobody knew already. Those are capable of 6 seconds
in the 1/4. NOT for the budget minded by any means,
but I just wanted to throw that out there.

Also, the 05 Corvette gets a 500hp LS7! Nice!!!

WHY NOT??? There are people out there with the
"Cha-Ching", the time and the place to that swap!

I am SURE this was talked about even when the
LS1 motor first came out in '98.
