this is for the potential design of a "how to make a LS1 header cheap"
basicly reseach for everyone intending on swapping a genIII motor into their thirdgen. mods, please dont delete
anyone have some hooker longtubes cheap? im looking for some used ones that i can use to test the possibility of fitting onto a LS1... basicly hold it to the motor... if it clears reasonably, i'll cut the flange off, and spread the tube spacing to match the LS1 flange.. weld it up and poof. LS1 header for 3rdgen.
with some luck, we can get it down to a how to... perhaps get someone like hawks or someplace to do a production style run..

schweet! so it will work...
he cut the tubes i see.... i was going to try to just bend them out of the way.. heat + port-a-power... but its great to see that it works.

we test fitted a set of hooker long tubes today on my ls1 project....ground clearance is a major problem
i picked up a set of used hedman long tubes for $10, that test fitted a ton better for ground clearance. even though its a lot more work, im going to make a jig, and replace the 15/8 tubes with 1 3/4. then weld up with a ls1 flange. this might be a must if you have a very lowered car with bad roads. however, in the next year or so, i would love to put on an air ride to cure this problem

great minds must think alike.. lol, id also love to go on airride in a lil while.
do you have any pics from the test fit?
didnt even think about taking a pic. i dont have the actual engine im using yet. i just have a ls6 short block and some iron truck heads that i sat in the engine bay to get an idea. i will get a pic of them soon when i sit the engine is for the final time

keep in mind that you're probly going to have to space the header out from the engine when you're measuring... since the LS1 is narrower.... on the flange, we can always add extentions to make it match up better.

This puts me back to square one, the clearance with the hookers looked good in the other thread. I orderd the flanges but haven't done squat about the LTs yet. I think i'll hold off and see what you two come up with . I'm still wondering if the 4th gen LTs would work with the tubular K-member.
