you want a 2 piece rear seal, 305 crank wont work. is the t5 built to handle the torque the 350 puts out? gm didnt do that combo for a reason. its not always reliable but some people have had no problems with it.

It doesn't make any difference whether you get a 350 with 1- or 2-piece rear main seal. Just get the pieces you don't have to match whichever you get (assuming the '86 isn't what had the T-5).

The 305 crank you have is pretty much worthless. It could be made to work in a 350 with balancing, but by the time you get it balanced, you could have reworked or bought a new 350 crank.

Did the 1989 350's come with a one piece or two piece rear seal?

86 or 87 was the start of the 1 pc rear main seals. (I get those 2 years mixed up all the time)

The T-5 will last longer than the car, if you baby it, but when you start adding more power, faster speeds, rough driving, power shifts, traction, etc it's life will end very quick.

The 305 HO's was really weak when you look at what you can build and how easy it is to get power out of a 350 engine

What was the 305 HO like 190 HP and 240 ft lbs?

If you rebuild a 350 your self with mild performance in mind then you could see numbers in the 320-400 HP with 350-450 ft lbs real easy.

Thats about double the power of a 305 HO..

As far as which to get, 1 pc or 2 pc main. Everybody has thier own opinions. I have mine.

I rebuild only 2 pc. rear seal engines for performance use. Not to mention theres alot more 1969-1985 or 86 350's in junkyards than they are 1986 or 87 up 350's
