79 350 carbed to 350 tpi?
ok guys im getting a 76 350 vette motor off my friend and its carbed what all would i need to do to make it fuel injected
i know that i need a 350 ecm/prom, knock sensors, wiring harness, and 22# fuel injectors but would anything need to be done to fit my tpi unit to the block?

To fit it onto the block? No.
To fit it onto the heads? Yes.
The center-two intake bolts to the heads, on each side, changed angle in the 1987 model year. You have to either get a base for '85/'86 3rd gen f-body, or a Vette TPI base. Or, modify the mount bolt holes in your base. Or, trash those junk mid-70's heads and put your 305 heads on the 350 (not a bad choice).
No harness modifications needed.
The '76 will have a two-piece rear main seal, which has a different crank than yours, and therefore a different flexplate. You'll need one for a '85-earlier 3rd gen V8 application.
The '76 will have the dipstick on the driver's side, yours is on the passenger side. Your driver's side exhaust manifold sits right where the dipstick tube goes. Headers solves the problem, others have used a flexible Lokar dipstick.

Depends upon what pistons are in the 350, and what you do to the heads. Typical approach when putting 305 heads on a 350 is to put 1.94" intake valves (and some do 1.60" exhaust as well), and do some basic porting. While that's going on, you "unshroud" the valves by opening up the chambers a little bit. That will increase the chamber volume, and if you watch what you're doing, you can control compression rather easily.
Personally, I got slight dish pistons to go in the 350 when my current 305 heads go on it. But, I don't plan on spraying it, either.

im not sure what pistons are in the 350 but do you think that a set of sportmann II's 72 cc heads would be better? or would i be better off modifying my 305 heads? also what is the recommended CR and AFR for running nitrous cuz i dont want to push the envelope i just want some extra horsepower for cheap.

I had a 79 z28 motor and the pistons were dish pistions with 76cc chambers, talk about smoggers.... I think that putting a set of 305 58cc heads on would have really livened it up. If you have the dished pistions, which I bet you do, I think the 305 heads with some bigger valves would work nice.
The only way to tell is take off the heads!

so you deff think that this 350 with my 305 heads and tpi unit will out perform my 305 by a long shot or do you think it will just give me a little extra? because ive heard that these motors are dogs but isnt that due to the crappy stock heads and cam?
right now my car is running around 15.0-15.2 in the 1/4.
im hoping that with the reworked heads and the tpi unit im hoping to be able to get low 14's what do you guys think?

I think with a decient cam and deshrouded larger valve, port/polished 305 heads it will be better "if" your compression is 9.5 or lower with the 305 heads. I believe stock those 350s were 8.0 compression. They only way to tell is to take off the heads of the 350 and measure the dish in the pistions and then calculate the cr with the 58cc heads. If it is less than 9.5 I think that you will definately see a nice increase with the 305 heads.
Now if you have the money and could get a set of alum 58 cc 350 alum heads you would even see a better increas because the valves will be deshrouded more.
However, on a budget I think the 305 heads and cam will be a nice improvement.

yea im guessing that with the heads and cam it would pull low-mid 14's but thats just and estimate. what do you guys think it will run? im kinda anxious to see what it will do my friend said that it might even put me into mid 13's with traction cuz it ran pretty good in his 5,000 lb truck he was beating new and old mustangs the only thing he lost to was a lt1 z28. he was prob running around 15.2 in the 1/4 so that make me think that 13's are possible with this motor considering his truck weights a good 1600 lbs more than my car.
