Welcome aboard.

Are you talking the Vette long-block, or the whole engine & induction?

The '89 would be MAF, and the '92 SD. The Vette also has aluminum heads with no exhaust crossover passages.

It's not a simple unbolt and bolt in, but it should be workable.

The Corvette oil pan and oil pump pickup would also have to be changed to the style the F-body used. The Corvette pan setup is completely different.

Thanks for all the good information. considering all the problems in this swap, i just called about a rebuilt engine. I can buy a rebuilt longblock for a grand, and every thing will fit, so taking what you've told me i believe is a smart move. thanks for the info, it probably save me lots of time and money. Jack

Make sure the rebuilt long block has TPI heads and not TBI 'swirl port' heads.

One of the local guys bought a rebuilt supposedly TPI long block and it had the junk heads on it.

Well, this shows what hasty reading will do for you.

I see you have an '89 L98 Vette, which has a blown engine, and a "good" '92 Z28 engine (assumed to be an L98 as well).

No way, no how would I get a "rebuilt" engine for it. The heads on your engine are the preferred heads, even if you put the Z engine in your Vette, and the chances of getting a "rebuilt" longblock for an '89 Vette that has Vette heads for $1000 are about - well, nil.

Exactly how did your engine "blow"?

(For the record, this Board is intended for f-body cars. I'll allow this to live since questions often come up about the Vette L98. Technically, though, you're going the wrong direction to be compliant with Board rules...)

thanks for not kicking me off.
the z engine i have is a Lt1 not L98. found out it has reverse cooling system as well as a lot of other differences., Busted heads from overheating.Engine has over 200k miles on it , uses no oil but thought it time to let it rest.Found L98 engine rebuilt for 975.00, one year or 12000 mile warranty with tpi allumium heads and steel crank.450.00 core charge, don't think i can beat that.I really like your site, you've got some good people on it, ii'll sure tell all my f-body friends about it. thanks Jack

Is the price a special deal you can get or is this real deal that anyone can get - I'm asking cause I was thinking about swapping out my 305 TPI for a 350 TPI and the best price I've seen so far for a crate engine is $2300

Thanks

Link doesn't work.

What's the VIN code for a Vette L98?
