396 in 3rd gen
Hi im new here. I dont not own a 3rd gen yet but I do have a 96z28 a4. I was thinking of getting a 3rd gen camaro because they are dirt cheap around here. After all 2 f-bodys are better than 1. I have 2 396's in my basement and I was wondering if you can swap it into a 3rd gen z28. If so what all would I have to change, im pretty sure it wouldnt fit into the bellhousing but im not sure. Thats why im asking the experts here.

Is it a old 396 big block or a 396 Gen II LT1?
If it is the later the same swap procedures apply for any LT1 swap. Take a look at the stickies above to get you familiarized what is involved with a gen II motor swap.
By the way, welcome aboard!!

But, I'd recommend only trying to put one of them in...

What did the 396's come out of? As you might imagine, I have a bit of a soft spot for them.

They are both out of chevelles. As much as i'd like to donate one, its not going to happen seeing they arent technically mine. They are my dad's. I think im doing pretty good to have a 4 gen f-body at age 16. I'm a bit of a work-oholic working after school untill 9 and putting in big time hours on saturdays and sundays. That had nothing to do with this thread but i just wanted to make it known that im not a lucky kid that got everything handed to him. Anyhow one of the 396's is going back in my dad's 68 chevelle ss. I'm sorta changing my mind about puttin it in a 3rd gen untill later. I just want another f-body to keep mile of my 96 and a 5 speed. I love my 96 but im not too wild about the a4 but what can I say I got a deal. I'm sorry about being so long winded, i've already forgot the point i was trying to get across in this post.

Ahhh, stick with a sbc. They're alot more fun when you spank all your buddies with the big cubes for the same investment....
