Swapping L05 to 70's 350...?
Currently in the car is an L05 from a Chevy Suburban. According to various sources, it is low compression (8.3:1). Oil pressure is starting to drop when warm, but I have an opporotunity to aquire a 1970's 350 long block for free. I am pretty sure it has smogger 76cc heads, but my swirl ports 65cc (?) should be okay with it until I can afford better. The main advantage to this is, that I can rebuild the 70's block and still drive the car, until I am ready to swap. I was thinking about the Crane compu cam 2050 for flat tappet, and new bearings.
My Questions:
- Anybody have any ideas as to what i would be looking at compression-wise, and/or hp-wise?
- Is the 2pc main flywheel the same number of teeth as the 1pc (L05)?
- Any problems from doing this swap?

If the engine has flat top pistons, you should see an improvement in the CR range, probably around 1 full point. add in the compu cam, and you should be somewhere around 250ish hp, i figure. you'renot going to see a real difference unless you have already replaced the TBI exhaust. After you do a full 3" exhaust, you should be close to 280fwhp.
not a bad improvement from the 170fwhp 305 that came in the base model...
