We started removing engine Monday June 6 2005

Here is pictures for the past 3 days we been trying to archive it. We went trough a lot of torture. Every single bolt in this car is giving us headache. Seems like a car doesn't want to give in too easy to this modification.

We didn't remove engine yet due to 1 bolt that is not removable. It is a bolt that is stuck between transmission and engine block. The thread is most likely gone and there is no way to grab a damn thing.

Camaro being taken out to fit engine hoist. On the left you can see LQ9 on engine stand.

This is the bolt that is giving us headache. It wont budge what so ever. We even tried heating it up and then trying to remove it but nothing happened

Is there any other way to remove the engine?

So far we removed everything that's holding transmission from the floor. We wanted to disconnect the driveshaft but at the front end it looks like it has no bolts. It looks like it was clipped.

Besides grinding off the bolt between tranny and engine block is there any other way to go around this to remove the engine?

Driveshaft slips out of the tranny, you don't unbolt the front yolk.

Remove the shifter from the tranny. It looks like its a T5. Remove the 4 bolts holding the tranny to the bellhousing, slide tranny out

*or*

Just pull the motor straight up, angling the the whole thing to accomodate for the trans pointing down.

You're almost to the hard part, which is installing everything

good luck

Pull the motor and tranny at the same time, makes it a whole bunch easier getting the new setup in the car. Just remember to drain the fluid out of the tranny or it will end up coming out the tailshaft where the driveshaft yoke slides in.

We finally got it out.

2 things we had problem with. We didn't remove the headers. So after we did that we pulled engine a bit back in order for a driveshaft to slide out. Then we lifted the engine straight up. The bolt that was giving us hassle I torched it then hammered the socket in it and finally it came loose. All in all we did it in 3 hours. Now the long painful process of the project. Getting it all done!!!

Any new progress on this swap? I am about to start the same thing, 6.0 LQ9 into a 89 iroc. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

No progress as of yet. It's a financial struggle for us to save up for T56 12 bolt rear end and other little things. Car still standing in garage waiting for its moment.

No not yet. It's on the engine stand. We have to tow the car to the shop to weld in new floor panels and reinforce the body before doing anything. Then probably going to send it to body shop to get the interior paintjob done.
