Best ComBo?
I Been doing some window shopping on the Ebay, jegs and summit racing. My plan was to buy the edlebrock Performer RPM Air-Gap intake,Cam and later on the Heads. But when i looked on the internet i found a site that told me that you MUST have hardend pushrods,2400 stall and 3.73 gears.
that kind of blew me out of the water and shot my plans down. Now is this true? the motor its going to go in is a 350 w/ polished stock heads. What Cam/Intake combo would give me the best for a daily driver/ monthly trips to the track? Any combos that you use personaly use for daily drivers would be cool to know. PosT'Em
Thanks

I DiD a Search and found Little to Nothing.

as far as the hardened pushrods, yes, but they arent that much more expensive than non-hardened ones. These are required because of the pushrod guides on the new heads. the stall and rear-gears arent a must have but more of a recommendation. You will be much happier with this setup. You may already have 3.73 gears in your car. if your buying heads, cam, intake, plus all the misc crap, whats another 250 bucks for a good tq convertor that can make all of the difference in the world? The tq convertor is recommended to work best in the power range of the cam, that way your car stays in the power band of the motor, resulting in faster off the line acceleration.

Good luck finding a higher stall TH700 converter for $250. The least I've seen them is well over $300.
The RPM kit is okay except for the cam. Get something like a Comp XE268 for a daily driver, XE274 if you can stand the reduced low end.

yes the pushrods are a must for those heads. the convertor could come later yes, but you will be disappointed with the results of your new "kit" if you dont put it in right away. If you do wait, you will definetley see what a dramatic change a convertor makes though. My mistake, I forgot that you had a 700R4, which has a "lock-up" convertor, which is why they cost more. I've always used TH350's, which is why I estimated the lower price.

One neat thing about the 700R4 is that it's first gear is considerabley lower than, say,a turbo 350.While a stall is definately recomended, the lower first gear makes the stock convertor more tolerable until you can get a stall, which I personally would do first.
Also,I'm with fiveseven, screw the Edelbrock cam. They make a lot of great products, but their cams are ancient technology.I agree also on the Comp Xtreme Energy series of cams.I would go with the 274,but I have a tendecy to overdo things a bit.Either one that he suggested will perform great, the 274 will just pull a little harder in the mid to high RPM range,as stated earlier,at the cost of some low end tourqe.Check your gearing,if its lower(higher numerically)than 3:08,go with the 274.

So I gather from the thread that you still have the 305 in the car and have the 350 on a stand. I would go with the 3.73 and 2400-2600 stall converter now. The 305s are a little higher rpm motor to start with and gears and converter will wake up your existing set-up and give you something to play with while you take your time, save your money and build your 350 the right way.
Save yourself some money and get a Professional Products Cross Wind intake. It's a clone of the RPM Air-Gap. I like them better, I own 3 of them, because they are permanent mold cast, meaning denser aluminum, and more aluminum around the ports for better porting, should you want to. You can buy it polished for less than $200.00. The Edelbrock in satin is over $200.00.
The Edelbrock heads are good but expensive! Are you looking for show or go or both?
Here is a link to some small block Chevy engine combos, and some spiritual enlightenment for those that need it. Check it out!
