Did 305 to 350 swap again..need a lil help
Ok, I just had the 350 put into my new camaro and am having some problems..
First let me tell you whats in it..
350 (duh) with 305 heads (from 89 RS V8)
a crane cam (don't know model number right now)
stock intake and TBI from the 305
same chip (don't have funds to buy/make one)
One problem thats ticking me off is when I go full throttle from a stop, the engine kinda stalls for a sec then gets going. It hasn't died from doing that, but it feels like it wants to when it stalls. I'm thinking its the stock chip doing this?
Another thing is when I deaccelerate going around 25-30 the RPMs drop and kinda hover around 500-750RPMs while I'm slowing down..kinda feels like its stalling then kicking itself back up. I don't know any other way to explain it..i just know its not right..
One more thing..I've had to have her towed 2 times..she would run normal, no problems at all..I'd go in some place for maybe 10 minutes..go back outside and try to start up my car..but it wont. It will sometimes turn over a little, producing a funny smell..and sometimes it wont turn at all. Its not the battery, i know that much. I took the starter off and the power connector was very very lose, like the guy who put the engine in dropped it. So i replaced it with a new one. I have not driven it but once since I replaced it..drove her for 15 minutes around the block and came home. Shut her off to see if she would start back up in 20 minutes, and she did..so I'm hoping that was my problem. Does it sound like anything else??
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this.

Your loose battery connection is most likely the cause of that problem.
I doubt you're going to get much satisfaction until you get into your own PROM tuning.

Your car is horrendously out of tune. Did you install 350 TBI injectors, ESC module and knock sensor? If not you need to visit the parts store tommorow. The stock LO3 chip is programmed for 45lb injectors running the conservative fuel and spark tables for a restricted 170hp engine. Every paramerter of your chip is off the charts with your 350. The ECM cannot compensate for the motor that is in there now. The only way to make your car run the way it should is with chip work and the affore mentioned parts. Off the shelf chips will not suffice. You will have to learn how to do it yourself. Fear not as the chip burning stuff can be had for less than $200. You have the best people/resources in the world here on TGO to help you tune your TBI. To put this in perspective I will say this. With only a full 3" exhaust and a mild (b-body) LT1 cam, my 305 TBI would barely run with the stock prom. It was a slow, stuttering undrivable mess that went from 30mpg to 8mpg. Your car is sick and needs the proper parts/methodology to make a 350 TBI happy. The key to making power with TBI set-ups is chip tuning and fuel.

Where can I get all the stuff to make a chip other than online stores? I've searched and searched about how to make a chip and I really don't know what to do. I'm a newbie when it comes to cars (for the most part).
So, how much HP do you think I'm losing because of not having a chip?
--I'm pretty sure I have everything in the engine I need. This engine was in an 85 camaro and everything was brand new. Got the complete engine from Advance Auto Parts. The car caught fire so I took everything outta the 85 and put it into this 89. The heads were in bad shape, so I swapped them to the 64cc RS heads (the heads on it b4 were 72cc truck heads). And the carb..well yeah, it was toast so I'm usin the TBI from the 305.

No f-body came with a 350 TBI so you don't have the right parts. You need at least a 350 knock sensor and 350 injectors. Without them your car will continue to run lean and poor. Chip burning isn't all that hard. Take some time to read the stickies in the TBI forum. THere are some links that Dimented24x7 has posted helping people get started. If you absolutly have to see if you can get ytour hands on a 350 caprice chip. That chip will at least get your car to run. Without the right parts and or chip work it your 350 is probably making less power than an LO3. Some guys have seen over 50 at the wheels with the correct chip work.

How much am I looking at to get 350 injectors? And would it be cheaper/better to get a new intake, dist. and go carbed and get rid of the computer? I've been thinkin about doing that for a while, but I'm not sure what all I would need to do to gof rom TBI to carbed other than getting intake, dist. and a carb..
ps..thanks for your help so far

The price for 350 injectors varies. Some people sell them on ebay for next to nothing and other places offer discounts on new units. I would call your local junk yards and see if you can get ahold of a set. You will most likely have to buy the whole TBI unit but that is okay. I would say you are looking in the $20 to $100 range for good used ones. Swapping to carb is an option but you would then have to buy the stuff to convert. You can buy the parts you still need and the chip burning stuff and come out cheaper in the end. Your limiting factor will be how willing you are to learn.
