I am going from V6 to V8. Do I use 350 short shaft or long shaft?

Welcome aboard.

What year is your car? What tranny do you have now?

This is a father son project. AAAAAHHHHH OK father project. I have this 383 out of my 69 camaro. I have the 350 turbo that is a short shaft. The 86 was without motor and tranny when bought.

Well, it only matters if you want to use the original driveshaft. An '86, regardless of engine or tranny, would use a short driveshaft, meaning a long tailshaft TH350 would be the right length for the original driveshaft. Your short tailshaft TH350 would use the same driveshaft as the '82/'83 3-spd auto or 4-spd manual tranny cars.

I assume you've read the father/son swap story above...

Your best bet is to buy a B&M changeover kit. It give you the tranny mount for the 350 and a bracket to hook the torque arm to. Then all you have to worry about is the proper driveshaft.

Spohn, sponsor button at the top of the page, can provide some really slick change-over stuff. Crossmember, torque arm mount, even the driveshaft.
