LT1 383 next spring

ok guys looking to swap a LT1 383 forged internals with a 230/236 @.050 544/555 1.6 rockers,3000 stall converter and 3:73 gears

what would be needed 2 plant this power and not twist my t-top frame? deff SFC's and a bigger Panhard bar

budget is about $5000 prob no way i will be able 2 plant that power with a $5000 budget so i might just drop the 383 kit and stiffen up the car for when i get the extra cash

To be honest, I doubt you could find and build the engine for 5 grand. I just did a stock rebuild on mine putting in a CC306 and 1.5 crane rollers that I picked up off of a buddy for about half the price of new ones and have over 1100 in the rebuild. I know that the forged 383 kits have been going for around 1500-1700 bucks, add another 300 for the cam, 300 for the rockers, 300 for the stall and the labor to put it together if you aren't going to do it yourself it will be close.

But yea, subframes will be a must if you are going to put that in. I'm getting subframes for mine, looking into a wonderbar also. panhard rod won't help much though on the twisting.

yea i think im gonna get some lower control arms but the engine that im looking 2 get is in decent shape it has around 80k miles complete with trans, accessories and wirind harness and the stroker kit with forged internals is 1300 and your choice of cam is included in the price. im going 2 be doing the swap myself 2 save money maybe have a shop tune it in or something and balance it but do you think i will be over budget with the 383 kit? if so what mods could i do 2 stay under my budget and not have 2 re-buy parts like put in a cam only 2 take it out and put a bigger one in ect...

Like I said, I had my engine honed, crank turned and the oil holes champhered, rods reconditioned, gaskets, rings, bearings cost me 900 bucks. Then add 300 for the cam, 300 for the rocker arms that's 1500. I'll tune it myself and didn't have to worry much about the tranny since I'm running a T56. So depending on price of the engine setup you are getting, I paid $2700 for my setup, plus $1500 makes me with $4300 bucks so far tied up. When you add balancing the rotating assembly, that adds plus 1300 for the stroker setup will put you over the limit.

all F-Body 10 bolts rears have the same amount, or lack there of, of strength. if you don't want to have to worry about the rear, go 12 bolt or 9", but they're going to run you about $1750 for a bolt in one.

my suggestion, do the LT1 and your chassis/suspension mods now, get everything dialed in, then come back and do the 383 later on. Theres no way you'll be able to do everything now on a $5000 budget.
