Has anyone used the Sallee Cherolet 383 bare block PN# 88962516?

Was there any other work needed to be done to the block?

Is it worth $870 or would I be better off buying a 350 and getting the block work done?

 

It would depend on how much you could get a used block for, and how much machine work it would need at what price. It would also depend on how much the new block cost to ship to you.

 

I can get a used block (350 4 bolt 1-piece) for $300 that I could pick up. What is the going rate for the machine work to make it ready to build a 383.

 

You'd have to ask the local shops. Figure on boring, align honing, milling the deck and some clearance work for the stroker crank.

 

A general off the hip standard block prep price is right about $500-550 to have it done right. Alot of times your better off going local if you have reputable shops as opposed to buying from far away in the event of a problem, locals are more eager to help/replace/repair than a shop far far away...not to mention helping your local economy.
