Re: Re: How to go low 12's
Yea I know it takes more than just an engine to run low 12's. What I plan on doing 1st is the engine. What kind of power would I have to make to get my car there? What parts would I need to get there? The car will be a 5 speed. This will see the street a few times a month and just a few track runs a year. If some one could give me a build sheet on this just to give me an idea. I want to get the best bang for the buck. I dont want the cheapest parts and I dont want the most price. Just some thing I can take to the track and run some pretty good times in a drvie home. Thanks

You need a good set of gears with a limited slip. You need proper suspension parts to maintain traction. You need a free flowing exhaust from the headers back (3" +). From there you can focus on the motor. You will need to look into a heads and cam swap. 400hp can propel a 3rd gen into the 12's. Your 350 is very capable of making that with the right parts.

oh oh, new times: 12.16@110mph on a 1.65 60'. pulled the broken 4.10 rear out of the car and put in my spare 3.73 open diff. disc rearend to get me to work and back. this rearend has no lca relocation brackets, so even with the 275/60/15 M/T ET STREET Radials i had to feather the gas to not wheelhop so it's got more in it once i get the "good" rearend back together(with a new set of 3.73's, seems to like it more than the 4.10s). i also played with jetting and pumpshot and got the bog out of her, but i forgot my air pan that seals the carb to the cowl hood, so i know it's got more in her when i get a rearend that i can beat on out of the hole.
hello 11's.
according to my speed/weight, i'm making roughly 428hp at the crank. and it's extremely streetable with my 114lsa. thank you so much F-Bird '88 for the help on cam selection.

Wow seems to be working very well for ya. Maybe I'll have to order one of those cams up for the 406. I think your ATI trans and converter has a lot to do with it. ATI builds a hell of a good converter. What is your 1/8th mile time and MPH? What does the tach read (rpm) as your cross the finish line? The best 4.10 gears you'll find come out of factory GM 4 cylinder S-10 rear ends. Special hardened alloy. Superior to the the aftermarket stuff.
Kinda new that Crane cam was a winner. Its been around forever. probabily over 25 years. Just needed the right person to say to "this is the right cam for you"
Your car seemed just right.

1/8 mile was a 7.71@88.11mph
going through the traps with the 3.73's around 5500rpms. i really like the 3.73's. i've already seen a dramatic improvement in fuel economy and it still drives around town the same, and it seems to be quicker on the track too. definitely gained a solid MPH too.

Just one suggestion the T-5, 5 speed wont live with the kind of HP it takes to go 12s you would be better off with a auto trans ...plus it's usually more consistant...
