Engine ready to come out... Where to hoist engine?
Engine ready to come out... Where to hoist engine?
OK, everything is disconnected now and the engine is ready to come out. Whats the best place to attach my cherry picker to to pull this sucker out?
Its pretty much still complete minus the a/c compressor is off to the side to save from having to decharge the system.
any input appreciated.

Does the engine have the tabs bolted at the rear and front of the block? They look like metal eyelets. Or, you can use a length of chain and bolt to the rear and front of the block (the heads) and hook up to this. Make sure the bolts are tight enough.

yep I usually take a big chain and bolt it to opposite sides of the engine to the heads.
I yanked my engine and trans together. I bought a load leveler thingy from Harbor Freight tools for like $30. It made this job so simple. I would suggest getting one, you won't regret it.

Load leveler maks it go in/out much easier. No dented fenter tops or header panel problems. Was worth the money (only 19.99 on sale!). Did the trans and motor in or out in under an hour each time by myself.

Load levers are great especially if you’re pulling the engine and transmission as one. Use at least two if not four of the accessory bolt holes on the heads (i.e. A.C. compressor and alternator brackets on the front w/ similar holes on the back) to lift the engine. Oh yes, make sure to use top grade bolts and washers snugged to the chain. It gets pretty frightening when the bolts start to bend and you have 700 lbs. above the nose of your car.

I just used the accesory bolts from the front of the engine to attach the chains to my heads. work just fine for me. Just thread them in as much as possible
