If the transmission you are using didn't come from a 3rd or 4th gen f-body, you're going to need some means of mounting the torque arm. B&M makes a bracket that uses the tailshaft housing mount bolts for a TH350 or TH400. A good upgrade is a crossmember/torque arm kit from our site sponsor Spohn (see button above). The TH700 tailshaft housing can be swapped, so if you have a non-f-body TH700, you can put an f-body housing on it.

nope, the v6 trannies have a 60* bellhousing and will not bolt up to the back of your 90* small block chevy. you will need a v8 transmission. i suggest getting a rebuilt 700r4 if it's going to be on the street.
other than that, you'll need to put in a new set of motor mounts, exhaust(good time to go to headers and aftermarket catback) i'd look at the hooker 2055 headers and a flowmaster forceII catback. this would rumble really well and get you "exhausted" for about $650...so it's not TOO expensive.
from there, the rearend will work just fine. actually, you have 3.42's in the car right now and it'd be a great all around gear. kinda middle of the road w/ advantages of performance and streetability.
a set of subframe connectors will be in order as all of these cars flex WAY too much even with the puny v6's.
fuel system is fairly simple. if you want to keep your intank pump, just put a regulator (assuming your going carb) at the front of the lines. something like the mallory 3port regulator so that you can return all the unused fuel. carbs only require about 4-6psi, that intank pump puts out closer to 50psi, you will have to regulate it or you'll be shooting fuel out the top of the carb. the other option is to drop the tank, pull the intank pump out, extend the pickup using a piece of 3/8" tubing and a compression fitting, putting the tank back up. remove the inline fuel filter with another piece of 3/8" tubing and two more compression fittings, then install a mechanical pump and pushrod for a 1985 lg4 camaro. this is what's feeding my low 12 second car.
while this post is relatively vague, so is your original questions. if you have any more questions about anything specific, feel free to PM me.
just FYI, get ready to drop about $3k into this thing for all the necessaries

carb, about 100K, engine came from a friends 86 bird. it will fire right up, ive got an earlier one wire hei for it so you dont need a computer. it was the first 8 i put in my car but i wanted more power so after i got everything converted to v-8 from the six i put a crate engine in my car. he did the same thats why he sold it to me.

If going to the trouble of a v6 to v8 swap, why not drop in a 350? You'll spend the same money either way, and have a helluva lot more fun with the 350! I have a 305 and a 350 - and I definitely wouldn't waste my time swapping in a v8 without going 350!

my new 350 has a bunch of cam, worked holley 750 double pumper, 4000 stall converter and 3.73 gears, i've managed a solid 14.5mpg mixed. this motor is making close to 450FWHP. this should net a solid 21mpg highway.
it's got alot to do with how you drive the car and how it's setup. the reason i've done so well is cause i'm easy on it puttin' around town, it has NO accessories on the front other than waterpump and alternator, and they have aluminum underdrive pulleys on them. went to a full manual steering swap, managed to get the car down to a solid 3000lbs w/o driver and i made sure i kept my lockup abilities with the converter.
now, if mileage is a REAL concern, stay with the v6, cause it will easily get you 25+mpg mixed with 30mpg a real possibility on the highway. if you want more power, look into custom fabbing a turbo system onto it. this can be done (if you have fab skills) for around $1k. look on the v6 boards on ways to do this. search for Doward and Techsmurf. there is another guy doing it too. or, the other option is to find a v8 car and start modding it like crazy and keep the v6 as a daily driver. this is the way i would do it if i had it to do all over again.(the last 3 cars i have had have been factory v6 cars and all ended up with v8's before i was done with them.)
