Car Finished *Im gonna be sick part2*

Well, I created the thread "I think im gonna be sick" thread in Jan of '05
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...highlight=sick <-- link for thread.

The whole process was about how I was conned into buying a 305 when i thought it was a 350. Well I have a special thanks for a few people...
I would like to thanks to Five7kid, Apeiron, kboehringer, Lo-tec and eric17422001. You guys may not remember me but after all this time I have finished for right now.

quick recap... I took an '88 firebird 2.8 and made it into a 305... here's the pics

Engine: LG4 w/ 4Barrel Edelbrock Carb, Edelbrock performer intake, Summit Cam and lifters 214/224 2000-4500, Moroso Super blue ignition system and Edelbrock filter. Removed A/C and Clutch fan (Electric Fan Assembly) Exhaust- Hooker-2055 Headers, Hooker 3" Y-pipe, deleted cat, and 3" Edelbrock catback system. It also has a Malory distributor and MSD coil...

The Cowl hood is something I bought for clearance issues... I cut a big hole in the hood and riveted the hardwood 4" cowl in for clearance... I painted the car flat black because the car was 4 different colors... not a bad paint job for $15

Heres a picture of the back, I have blackouts, I really do not like them but they are covering up the tailights someone kicked in...50 bucks is cheaper than two taillights... you can also see the edelbrock exhaust..

Nice car.

One question though, it looks like you have a racing harness, but no cage....please tell me you arnt using those shoulder harnesses with them bolted lower than your shoulders, cause it can brake your bake in a wreck.

The enertia wheel was broke so the seat belts were useless, those harnesses only cost me $100 the harness are bolted into bolts from the back seats , therefore making the back angle greater than 45 degrees. They are safe I promise you... some people make the mistake to bolt them to the back of the rear seat bolts on their seat but these have a about a 60+ degree on the angle so I assure you they are safe. Good looking out though

Sometimes you just need a practice motor, besides I have a 350/383 aside being built... That was my first engine build, I didnt want to screw up the good one...

A lot of the time i agree with you, but not this time. If he got screwed and ended up with a 305, so be it. A 350 will go perfectly in its place. Why not use the crap engine, until he can afford a good one?

Well this 383 might come quicker than expected... I went racing the other night and I might have lost a cylinder... There's a very bad knocking/ mechanical noise and reduced power... I checked the valve train nothing yet, I will probably pull the motor out next weekend and rip it apart... I will not put the 305 back in... I will be a while before shes back up but when she does she will be a 383... Thanks for the support guys.

You really need to change the mounting point for your rear harness. The only points that are fixed are where the harness is mounted. Everything else in between will just take shape to whatever is in it's way. If you get in a head-on collision the weight of your body will pull you forward. The shoulder harness will pull down on the seat and your shoulders and crush whatever is in the way... including your shoulders and your back. The shoulder harness becomes a weapon against you instead of a tool to protect you. Your body is no match against that shoulder harness.

The mounting point should be within a few inches of the top of your shoulders.
