old 350 motor with 87 parts

hey guys, i bought a suposidly 350 engine a while ago, and now i have an 87 Iroc 305 tpi. i was told that the 350 i bought is a 70's engine, i was wondering if the tpi stuff needed to convert, off my 87 305, would work on the "older" 350 block.

i only need the stuff to convert the engine to tpi, i am planning on getting the 350 rebuilt at a shop anyway, and bored to a 383, would this be ok?

You act like you arent very sure if this is even a 350. Look on the back of the motor behind where the dizzy usually is and see if iit says 5.0lg or 5.7lg then attempt to get the casting numbers.
Second you cant bore a 350 to a 383, you can stroke it, and bore it 30 over which makes a 383 but boring alone is not going to do it.
Also, yes you can use the same TPI stuff on your older motor if you really wanted to.
Just find out the casting numbers or you will be sorry later. trust me ive been burnt with the old "yeah its a 350" bit

do the casting numbers just tell you if its a 350? or is it like an ID number?

also, will i have any trouble getting that 350 hooked up in my 87 Iroc? will it hook up to the trans? or will i have to do stuff to get it to work?

Check out this site MorTec, Inc. Home Page with the casting number you'll know what year and engine size. I was burnt on this once, too. Bought a truck and was told it was a 350 but it was a 307.

behind the distributor there will be an upper lip where the bellhousing is bolted into. it is most likely on the right side (passengers) the 5.0/5.7lg stamp is on the drivers side... on the same lip. Find the numbers and I will look it up for you

Driver's side behind head 5.0 or 5.7 (just above my hand). Straight up just to the right of the distributor will be casting number.

well you can stroke it to a 383 if you want,
You will need a 400 crank, 383 pistons, punch your block 30 over and have the block clearanced for the stroke and maybe even the rods clearanced.
It will be pricey but it all depends on what you are looking for in a motor bro. 383 is a good torque motor, perfect for trucks and things of that nature.

my main concern is, will everything i need for tpi be able to convert over to my 350? even though the 350 is older, will it still work? like the intake and everything.
