driver side oil stick, factory 82 manifolds, the fix ?
ok when using a 79 and older sbc engine what is the fix to have an oil stick with the factory exh manifolds in the 80s ?
i think i am giving up trying to find a good stock 80-up 305 engine and am just gonna use the 74 CMR 350 engine i have sitting in the 85 k-20, but am gonna have to have the 14014416 305 heads opened up and 1.94 valves put in them,
might as well just use what i have, instead of trying unsucessfully to find a stock 80-up carb 305 thats good shape and lower miles and all that, they dont exist anymore it seems
thanks for anything

Lokar flexible dipstick.
Of course, headers solves that problem - along with others.

Pull that sheetmetal heat sheild thing off the manifold, and you can pinch the dipstick tube between the head and manifold. Theres just enough gap between the head and manifold just above the dipstick hole in the block that you can pinch the tube in there, crushing it just a little bit, and still have the dipstick slide in and out just fine.

interesting,
but doesnt the tube come way out away from the block too far to do that without kinking it up when bending it?
i wonder if i could just make a tube out of some tubing
cuz i aint spending 50 on some fancy flexible thing, hmm
thanks for any further

It does have to be tweaked somewhat to follow the head, but its not difficult to do with a borrowed tubing bender.

I have a passenger side in block dipstick.. the dipstick tube (mr gasket) stuck about a foot above the valve cover, so i got the lokar one and man its a nice piece.. pricy but it fits nice.
