How much is an 86 305 worth?
I was thinking of swapping the 2.8 that i have in my camaro for one that i have in my z28. Im wondering how much I could get for the 305. Its got 116000 on it and it needs a headgasket. I have someone thats interested and im not real good when it comes to pricing. Me and a friend guess somewhere around 200 bucks but you guys know alot more than me so ill ask you guys Senior Member

If you could get somebody to give you 200 for an engine that needs a head gasket, and has high milage- that would be great. you can buya good running 305 for $500. good luck

Most 305's go for dirt cheap unless they are brand new or have been rebuilt recently, have aftermarket heads, cam, TPI setup included, etc. $200 seems reasonable if it runs good. But I dont know about $200 for a 305 that blew a head gasket. I'd have that blocked checked out very thoroughly before purchasing it.

Depending on if it is a roller cam motor $200 isn't a terrible price, but maybe a little high. If you can get that, take it. I've seen these in good running condition with ~100k sell for $125 without an intake. For flat lifter motors, I've seen them go to the first person to pick them up. There are a ton of these out there that could be had cheap, but I would hold out for at least $100-125 if the head gasket is the only thing wrong and you have room to keep it.

Yeah, I'd tell him $100 or 125. Expect him to talk you down some, so you might want to tell him $125. This is the complete engine right? If so, I don't think he will talk you down much if at all. Does this have the TPI setup? If it does, I'd go about $300 for the engine.
