Will it Work? Would it be worth it?
Hey,
I searched around and read some threads, but nothing that i was looking for in particular. I was just wondering if a 302 small block chevy from 1968 will work in a 1992 camaro. I am probably going to put TBI on the 302 that i have on already on my 305. What kind of power would i see, or is it even worth it? because i can get a complete block for 100 bucks.

I don't see the point. It's a smaller engine, and it needs a rebuild. If you want to sink money into a not too fast but unique engine then go for it.

well i dunno yet cus i might need to replace my 305 cus i may have a crack in the block. Would i see power gains or loss in the 302? Also would it be a simple swap or is there something other things involved?

Hey,
I saw that engine in the Buy & Sell too. Would it work in your Camaro. Well the engine will fit, it'll drop right in. But in 1968 the heads didn't have holes in the fronts of them to bolt the accesories to, so your alternator, power steering pump, A/C Compressor, ect. won't mount to the front of the engine. Also the heads will have different angle of bolt hole for the intake manifold, the middle ones are at a different angle, so I don't know if it will bolt up properly. Also this 302 probably isn't the famed 302 put in the first generation Z28, so I don't know what performance will be like. You could build it for performance though. As long as the block is good, rebuild, get forged rotating assembly, good heads, valve train, fuel and induction..... that motor could really fly.

thanks for the replies,
ill have to see what my other options are cus im on a student budget so i dont have much to build an all out 302. But for now im thinking of just getting a 305 block just to replace my cracked one, and once i get the money to get a nice engine, then ill consider a high output engine.

alright, nobodies gonna say it?
1968 302 2bbl? Somethings fishy there. I'd guess it's some jokers ford 302 from mid '70s, probably a '78, and a typo.
And TBI on a 302 is a joke.
Yea, just grab a 305 from the wreckers, out of a caprice or cutlass. A nice granny driven one, and run that while you save your pennies. That's even if you need to, I doubt you cracked your block.

Probably not a 302, a 302 chevy motor is rare and very valuble, and did not come with 3bbl carbs. It is probably a 283 or a 307
