LO3 to Carbed L98
Ok, I asked for some help with this in the electronics section but didnt get too much of a response. I bought a project car that was originally an L03 car and now its got a Carbed L98 in it. The problem is nothing on the engine is wired. So I got a few schematics and tried to research what other people did for this swap but couldnt find enough info.
So my question is, what do most people do with this swap? Do they use the TBI wiring, a different wiring harness, or do they just ditch the ECM? Im lost
Thanks!

With the carb, the ECM is effectively ditched. You need to power the ignition and choke (assuming it has an electric choke on the carb), and wire the gages and accessories. All of that can be done with the factory TBI harness, although you might have to re-terminate a few things. With the possible exception of the choke, which may have to be powered with a new ignition-switched 12V source (there's probably an unused TBI wire that would do the job, but I have no idea what it would be).

Anyone know what year harness I need for this alternator and where I can by it? Theres 4 pins and a bat. stud on the back. Got a pic below of the alternator. And the other pic is of what I think half of the wiring harness gone, right? Ive been trying to use my 85 carbed for a reference but its just to different to get anywhere.

I know my '87 LB9 engine/harness I had used that type of connector. I assume it is all '87-up, but couldn't say beyond that.

You could put on an '86 alternator and use the "old style" connectors. That makes it pretty easy - 2 wires to the plug, one wire to the battery, and a ground.
It does look like the engine harness is gone. You could look for an earlier harness if you use the earlier alternator. Compare it to your other car, I think you'll see what I mean.

Ok went to advance auto and got a harness for the alternator and all is well, but got a few questions. The alternator is permenatly wired to the battery via the bat. post on the alt, but its a fused link right? what size fuse should i use?

The positive post on the alternater is wired direct to the battery it only allows charging through that terminal and is not fused as the alternater is only charging when the key is on and the power to the rectifier is on , the short distance that the power travels from the battery to the alternater is not prone to shorting as long as the wire is properly positioned , also on a side note you can change pulleys on the alternaters from serp to V-style or the other way around , they just unbolt with the big nut in the pulley..
