HSR 383 Engine install? Can I? should I?
Ok..I m wanting to install my engine this weekend....
I made a lift plate out of 1/4 inch steel and bolted it to my 4 plenum holes in my stealthram intake...I know they will hold the engine cause I have already tested it and lowered it in the bay ....but found out I need to grind on some things...
My question is do you think I can bolt my torque converter and transmission to the enigne and lower it down in the bay?
Do you think the plate and the bolt holes will hold without striping out or elongating the holes?
I dont want to ****up my intake....and have the motor DROP!!!

Isn't the intake aluminum? No way would I feel comfortable doing that with my engine - especially with a transmission hanging off. Why not use the accessory bolts on the heads like most other people.

Heli-coil them first and I would say yes.
If not then acessory holes in the block.

The heads are aluminum too. So why go from aluminum to aluminum?

Vertical (intake) VS Horizontal (heads)
I'm not saying the intake won't hold, I really have no idea, I'm just saying it makes me nervous.

In order for you to break a helicoil, you would need to pull 12 bolts from the lower manifold from sheer force. You put four helicoils in and you will never strip it or cross thread it. The tighter you make the bolt the more the helicoil cuts into the aluminum.

i dont have a problem using it the way it shows....it will hold fine..I was just wanting to drop in the motor and trans together...but I guess I'll just do the motor by itself...and put the trans in from under the car...its just a pain doing that...but I would much rather do that than break the bolt holes on the intake.
ive seen plenty of lift plates attached to aluminum intakes where the carb goes...I just figured this was no different

I'm sure you could find a torque spec for every bolt on the car, but just get them tight. You don't have to go crazy with it just tight. Motor looks really nice!

Your plate should hold fine....i've had my engine in and out three times, tranny attached each time...i have an aluminim brodix intake, and i have never been worried about any thing breaking. I know it seems like it should, but i know several guys in my area who use liftplates bolted on where their carbs would be, no one has trashed an intake yet.
