Found new motor but I have questions
Finally found a 92 350TPI out of a caprice. The guy has everything but the computer. Will my 305TPI computer work?

Re: Found new motor but I have questions
A 92 Caprice doesn't have TPI. It has TBI.
I'm guessing that you want to use this to replace your 305 TPI in your F-body?
Yes it will work in your car. Expect it to be slower than your 305 TPI. Certainly nowhere near what you would get out of a 350 TPI.
Yes your computer will "work"; but not to the full potential of even the lesser TBI motor with your TPI on it. You'll need 350 injectors, a 350 chip, and the 350 knock sensor, for it to do right.

Re: Found new motor but I have questions
According to Edmunds, TPI was available on 1992 Caprices as an option. Was the first year. Should be almost the same TPI setup as I have now. If going with the 350 I definetely want to stay TPI. The 350 should have the injectors, knock sensor on it. In regards to the 350 chip, do you mean having a 350 prom burned?

Re: Found new motor but I have questions
Then Edmunds is WRONG.
92 was the LAST year of TPI in any vehicle. It was discontinued in 93.
TPI was NEVER available in the Caprice, in ANY year.
The LT1 appeared in Caprices and Vettes about that time. However, VERY VERY VERY few Caprices got it. I would come as close as I ever get to being willing to bet money on something I don't already know as fact, that the car in question has TBI.
I WILL ABSOLUTELY bet that it doesn't have TPI; or that if it does, it didn't come with it (somebody swapped it in). Which is probably even rarer than a Caprice with the LT1.

Not sure where you're getting that (couldn't find it on Edmunds myself). Even the 9C1 police package http://www.9c1.com/brochures/1992/92_9c1.pdf only had the TBI LO5. 205 HP wonder.

Re: Found new motor but I have questions
All these people saying it will be slower than a TPI 305 need to get a grip of themself. The 3,700 lbs Caprice ran deep into the 16s with 205 FWHP. Hell my Fullsize Van with its 190 HP L05, bolt-ons, and custom tuning on the prom ran a 16.1 @ 85 on the stock roller cam and stock 193 heads with its stock 8.75:1 compression.
A mild cam, even with the stock 193 heads would definately benifit the Caprice 350. Look into something along the lines of the LT4 Production Cam.
A LT4 cam in a flat-top piston L05 Caprice cop car engine will really wake things up nicely.

I'm impressed! that's about what a 305 TBI drives one of these cars at, at 3500 lbs.Yeah, one of the people that lives out in my front yard, has one of those cars. Might even BE a 92. It's some kind of dark ugly metallic green color. His GF usually drives it. He complains all the time about how slow it is. He calls it "the nunmobile".... it actually was owned by some one of the convents around here before he got it at a salvage auction or something.
He hates it. Trending Topics
