Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

I'm working on it, so don't worry. It takes time and money and talking about it before it happens makes people here upset.

When it shows up it will have a good story with lots of pics as well.

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

what engine you guys plan to use? the one engine i can think has the best chances of workin is the Duramax engine. The Cummins is probably too long and who wants to put a Ford in their third gen.

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

6.2 or 6.5 with a TH400 would be the way i would go. They spin fairly fast two. As much as i like fords, i like the 6.2 any day over the the NA 7.3.

a major issue would be the weight of the engine.

Yeah, that thing would be quite heavy, but unique. Seems to fit that big a$$ boat Impala though.

Think the old 6.2 cannot run.

Put a 2,800ish rpm stalled 4L80E behind that puppy and it would move out nicely. Shift it at 5,000 rpm, lol.

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

I found the buildup online. It's in 3 parts, but automatically forwards, the the next part. by itself.

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

weight of the motor will not be an issue by the time i start my build.. i'm sure in 20+ years, if they still make diesels, they will be as light as a sbc..

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

Weight will always be an issue. Because of how the engines run (Basically by detonation) the sealing needed on the heads because of boost, and the significant torque output, to be reliable they will always have to be massively heavy: Not a problem in a truck. Although technically interesting, putting the Queen Mary engine in a rowboat seems to me a project of questionable merit.

...just my 2 cents.

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

Just a thought.....Global West Competition springs have an ungodly spring rate. Might be able to use those along with beefing up the front end with a tubular A frame crossmember and lower control arms.

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

Anybody know the fully equipped weights, of a Gen 1 SBC & auto tranny, compared to a fully equipped turbo diesel, and Allison? Curious about the auto tranny equipped diesels, but no too many people are going to buy a 2007 tranny. I don't know of any older auto diesels.

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

Check out this "Pimp Your Ride" '65 Impala with a 800 hp Duramax and Allison.

http://www.dieselpowermag.com/featur...max/index.html

It seems to ride well with big block springs....so you can guess that the motor combo is somewhere in the big block range.

Re: Diesel swaps anyone?

Yeah, I've seen that car...Between the extra weight, I'm also curious about a diesels height. We all know it is taller than a SBC or BBC, hence the monster cowl hood on that Impala.
