shifter location problem
i took the entire t-5 system out of an 89 rs 5.0litre and am put it into my 87 gta that was a 5.0litre auto and is now a 5.7 litre 5 speed. when i put the engine and tranny in the car i noticed that were the shifter mounts to the trans it is tilted towards the driver. is this the way it should be? also when i put the console in its not linning up with the shifter. is the shifter different for a firebird than a camaro? any info would be great. thanks

Re: shifter location problem
the trans is at an angle, its something like 17 degrees, as for the shifter, i thought they were all the same, maybe its aftermarket, you need a different shifter-plate, they are different between the auto's and the manuals, but i assume you know that.

the middle picture is of the shifter in the center neutral position its too close to the driver side and hits the plate when you try to get 1st or 2nd

Re: shifter location problem
thats right, but i thought it was the trans at a 17 degree twist and the shifter was straight up but if thre motor is in right well the shifter must be as well. and thats a big hole make sure the rubber lower boot goes in there or it's gonna be loud and alot of fumes
