well a 406 is typically a 400 block based motor, while the 408 you have listed, which happens to from the same place i got mine , T & L, and is based on a 350 block. "How fast have you gone with a 406,408" is a very vague question being that there are a million different setups of the engine and car that would affect the outcome, im sure you can make a 406 that will do a 13 in the quarter, and another that will run a 9. The 408 A2, which is the motor i bought from T & L, is rated at 510 hp and 500 lbs, which from the crappy speed calculators will net about a mid 11 run, with a good setup, so is that what your asking?

Don't have mine in yet, but i was very pleased with the service i received from T & L, lloyd is a very knowledgeable person and is easy to work with, and I would buy from them again in a heart beat.

i emailed them but they havent got back to me yet, some variables of the engine are not listed. And your are correct about the 13-9 second setup, thats what i was wondering what everybody did different. But I really dont like the heads which they use, i figure i could get around 570ish crank with a set of afr RR heads. But we will see. Its good to see another T and L customer .

if that is 400 4-bolt gm block, u will probably get some people saying that the 2-bolt main blocks are stronger, i personally dont agree, i have a 413(400 4-bolt 0.060), and i've done research on our motors, i see the 4-bolts going into the 10's in a 1/4, and mostly seeing 2-bolts not keeping up, i'm sure there are combinations to fix this problem but its just what i've experienced

they offer a setup with AFR's and it puts out 540 or so HP as built, but they will do/change anything you want. Give them a call, its probably a bit faster and you can get all your options figured out. ask for lloyd

Re: How fast have you gone with a 406-408

A friend and I put a mild 400 into his 90 firebird back in 1994 and we busted out 12.87-12.99 1/4 mile times until we shredded his T5...

We had late 80's TPI 350 heads and a rip off performer rpm cam from Summit. WE had expensive slp 1 3/4 headers and a 3" cat-back from Thrush with those huge 3" tail pipes.

Our inspiration was an ad in Car Craft that showed a guy with an 84 T/A and a 400 small block running 12's. They sold a brochure that told how to do it in the back of the mag. We just borrowed their idea and went for it!
