Got My L98!!
Just picked it up ... it's still in the bed of the truck.
Casting is 14093638 and it's out of an '89 Formy. Got it AND a 3.27 disc-brake rear end for $450. It's getting a rebuild before it goes in the car. Any suggestions for upping the HP while I'm building? I plan on porting/polishing the heads and putting in a hotter cam.
Is this a roller motor? I know the 638 castings came with either flat tappet or roller, but I thought all the flat tappets were in pickups/vans. I will find out soon enough when I tear it down, but I was wondering if anybody might know.
I debated on the motor swap for a long time ... after all I have a 1-of-663 car, but it's going to be worth it. I'm keeping all my original equip., so I'm not worried about it. And I'm REALLY excited about the 350/3.27 combo

Re: Got My L98!!
Whenever I start this project (it's going to take a while ... we have a baby due in a week!!) I'm going to regularly post my work in the tech/general engine forum. I am a noob to engine building, and I think it might help other noobs to learn from my mistakes and get over the fear of the big scary engine.

Congrats! The L98 is a beast, it's what is in my wife's 92 B4C now. I hope you're keeping a stick on it, maybe convert to a T-56?
I'm going to do an LS1/T-56 swap so I got a few engine building books from Amazon to reduce the newbness. Luckily I've got a couple friends who are far more knowledgeable than I, and one is building a huge shop

Nah. It was bolted to a 700r4, that's what I have now, and I don't want to hack up my car for a manual tranny swap.
I'm loaded with David Vizard engine builing books, and I just bought a DVD. Can't wait to get started. My first project is to get my home theater up before the start of regular-season football. Then I'll tear into the motor. Then the baby comes and everything will come to a stand-still.
