4.3 v6 swap for a 3.1 ??
The 4.3 is a realy strong motor.Where would you find a wiring harness that would swap everthing out nice and neat? I know everything else would bolt up but electronis is the tough part.

Re: 4.3 v6 swap for a 3.1 ??
Never heard of anyone throwing a 4.3 in exchange for a 3.1. Interesting. I just sold a boat with a 4.3 in it and it cranked out 190 hp and LOTS of torque, so that particular motor was actually stronger than a stock 305. I'd say if you put it in, do some head work (or have it done) or buy yourself some Vortec heads & an intake. I doubt they're too expensive for a 4.3.
I can see it now ... "You're swapping a V6 for a V6!! Put in a 350!! Blah blah blah!!" If you're happy with it, go for it. It's got to be better than you're 3.1. However, I had a 3.1 in my '92 Lumina in high school, and that car would BURN a Camaro with the same motor.

Electronics it the super easy part. You got 6 injectors, a TB, a CTS, O2, etc. Kind of a no-brainer.
You would find the wiring harness in the truck it came out of.
The hard part is, "everything" does not just "bolt up". The bell housing bolt pattern on the 4.3 is the same as a V8; different from the 60° 6-cyl you have now. Motor mounts are different, exhaust is COMPLETELY different, from what I've seen of the 6-cyl cars on this site the radiator hoses on that setup are backwards whereas the ones on the 4.3 will be the normal way, etc. It's far far far from a drop-in.

Re: 4.3 v6 swap for a 3.1 ??
Is the 3.1 in a camaro the same engine as the 3.1 in a mid size GM front wheel drive? I know know the 4.3 and the v8's are basicaly the same engine just 2 cylinders shorter.Does the 3.1 bollt in the same as the Buick 2.8?
----------
By the way I currently dont have a camaro or a pontiac third generation.I have seen quite a few 3.1s around for sale, but my 88 rs had more engine problems than it was worth. I currently am looking for a 91 92 v8 camaro. If I end up getting a 3.1 I want to swap it out.

I'd say it's the same motor, but in my '92 Lumina it was mounted sideways and had a transaxle of course because it was FWD.

Re: 4.3 v6 swap for a 3.1 ??
A 4.3 has the same bore, stroke, and bore spacing as a 350...just missing 2 cylinders. From what I've heard, the mounting for a transmission is the same, you could run any trans that would mount to a SBC...might run into input shaft issues though. Also, the accesories would interchange, I think. I've considered a turboed 4.3 (Syclone or Typhoon anyone??) swap into my car...hehe. Odly enough, I think it would be easier for me to replace my 305 with a 4.3 than it would be for you to replace your 3.1 with a 4.3...
