can it work?

Hey all, this will be my first engine swap. I've got a 1988 Firebird (currently with a V6). I'm trying to do a swap for the lowest cost and reap the best possible results. So, on that note, I have a 1985 Olds 5.0L (307ci) and a Turbo Hydromatic 200 that I can use (out of a 1985 Custom Cruiser). I am hoping both the engine and tranny can swap in the 'bird with little problem. is this possible? One of my main concerns is using a header that fits the engine and bolting it to an exhaust system that fits the Firebird; i don't want to come across fitment issues. I feel that there shouldn't be too much difference between an Olds 5.0L and a Pontiac 5.0L (as far as bolt on headers and such are concerned).

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

~Steve

Re: can it work?

search a little bit in this fourm, there is a post concerning this exact swap, if you are looking for performance, forget the 307, its a dog and more trouble than its worth.

Re: can it work?

Thanks for the advice. I checked it out. I found the threads you were talking about. I think I'll stay away from the Olds 307 and hunt for something else. A Pontiac 350 is sounding good to me right about now. I am hoping to make this swap as easy as possible.

Thanks,
~Steve

Steve, if you want the swap to be as easy as possible, then stick with a small block Chevy. Pontiac engines have been successfully installed, repreatedly, but it's a little more complicated than a Chevy....

Re: can it work?

Ok, cool. I think I'll do that. Funny, that was my original plan anyway.
