Re: swap question

bump?
i found a company "painless"
they claim this is "everything" i need.
i want to know if it truly IS indeed everything like the entire harness for the whole car.
not just the engine harness.
does anyone know?

The Painless route is more for putting a TPI engine in a chassis never designed for it. It's only for the TPI system, not the whole car.

You'll get everything you need from the TPI car. The other harnessing doesn't need to be changed.

Personally, I would be inclined to put the 350 underneath the carb'd system you now have (assuming it is a stock computer controlled carb).

Re: swap question

well the car USED to have the quarda bog.
with the factory computer controlled ignition system.
i put on a holley street dominator intake and a 650 cfm holley carb.
the car was running like garbage. so i put in a hei ignition system but left the computer and all the wiring in the car because i wasnt sure if i could ditch the eintire harness and computer or not so i left it alone.
but i downsized the carb to a edelbrock 600cfm kept the holley intake. and an hei distributor.
the car went from a 19 second 1/4 with the factory stuff . to hittin 15.8 1/4 after the new carb intake and dizzy.

so can i do the tpi swap if all i have is the 89 gta ENGINE harness?
i heard from people saying that this swap is the most painful because the entire harness has to be swapped. engine and car harness. bypassing VATS
. this is what confuses me.
engine,trans,engineharness,pcm.
is being offered to me.
what else do i need aside from the fuel tank and fuel pump. to get this engine to run properly in my carbed camaro body.
also.
im somewhat new to domestics. all i do is imports but i fell inlove with the fbody so i have one
but the engine harness doesnt have the connector for the fuel pump does it?
thanks for all your help fivesevenkid.
your the best!!

What year is your car?

You may also need to wire from the fuel pump relay to the fuel tank. Other than that, the engine and ECM harness with the sensors and relays are a piece of cake.

Re: swap question

my year is 87 the donor was 89
so the only thing i would have to fabricate is the fuel system
other than that its cake for the experienced right?
now
for all of this.
do you think its really worth it.?
i want mid 12s on this car. is it possible to work that motor up there.

now what about the exhaust.
isnt it different?
im pretty sure it still uses the y pipe assembly no?
and would you use a t5 tranny or keep a "worked" 700r4
by "worked" the owner said it has some race clutches. corvette torque converter.
completely rebuilt.

'87 is a good thing, because you already have an in-tank electric pump. You'll need to change the pump, but the wiring will be there.

The exhaust is different. The '89 stuff is the good stuff. If you like your car, you'll take all of the '87 stuff off and put on something better.

I wouldn't say it's only a piece of cake for the experienced, it's a piece of cake for the competent.

T5 or auto is personal preference. I prefer shifting, but the T5 isn't the best manual transmission out there, especially behind a 350.

oh. never knew that.
you learn something new everyday.
so theoredically i dont have to replace the fuel tank.
only the fuel pump.
walbro 255lph?
i used that in my civic. a bit over kill but i thought it was better to over kill on the fuel pump than to not have enough.
dont i need to run different fuel lines?
or can i use my existing fuel line?
after the fuel system concern is taken care of, all i have to worry about is swapping the engine harness and pcm over to the tpi, taking care of the exhaust system and i SHOULD be good no?
oh and btw
thirdgen.org is a huuuuuge help.
i mistakenly went to 3rdgen.org and im sorry to say. is garbage over there.
i found my home
