My engine in my car runs great right now but in the next year or so I really want to do a swap. I have been thinking about an L98 or LT1 but I really want to do an LS1 swap. My question is I know to get a good LS1 and tranny is about 3000-4500, but as I was looking on ebay and some other places it seems that I can get a used 5.3L Vortec or the 6.0L Vortec engine out of a truck for around 1000 cheaper. Would a 5.3L Vortec or the 6.0L be as easy as the ls1 swap and how would they be in my car???

 

they are pretty much the same thing, if chosing between the 5.3 or 6.0, take the 6.0. the ones from the denalies and ss silverados are a little hotter than the rest

bbbbbbuuuuuuummmmpppp! please reply!!! What do you guys think that the overall cost of this would be. I am planning on buying a ls1 intake for it so it will fit under my stock hood. If it helps I have a 1989 Camaro Iroc Z LO3(and yes I do have one it is the base model for irocs too) with a T5.

 

As far as the 5.3 & 6.0 you are going to have use the same stuff as the LS1 swap. The diffirence being the price of the motor. If you have enuff funds and dont mine having the car down for awhile do the LS1. If you head over to www.ls1tech.com there have 5.3's and 6.0's swaped into a bunch of diffirent cars,trucks,boats,scooters,and one in a eletric wheelchair. There is even a 5.3 in a third gen camaro with the LS1 intake under a stock hood IIRC.

 

And don't worry about using the truck engine; it's still lighter than the old 350 and as a member of the LS family, all of the same HP mods apply.
