Engine out of truck
Engine out of truck
Im going to buy a motor from a 1972 Chevy C10 its a 350 4 bolt main motor and runs great. what i would like to kno is if i can use the power steering pump off of it and hook my power steering lines up to it? because i do not have my serpentine system and this engine is complete with belts and pulleys so i was wondering if i could use its power steering pump.

Re: Engine out of truck
Probably not. The fittings are most likely different.
There's also a VERY GOOD chance that the oil pan won't fit your car.
Go to the junkyard and get all that stuff off another car (including a pan). No big deal, cheap. Much better idea than the amount of hacking that all the rest of that is going to be.

You have a metric steering box and a standard pump. There is no line to do what you want to do. You can have the line made at a hose shop for more money than the junkyard parts needed to do the swap, but it's up to you.

i did a recent 350 swap in my iroc and its a 4 bolt main from a 83 silverado and you will need the factory power steering pump for the camaro and weld a custom bracket to hold the power steering pump on so its not crooked,or atleast thats what i did,i can get you pictures of mine if you want and if you think it will help you out

Re: Engine out of truck
I would like to say I am in the middle of a V6 to V8 swap up here in Canada and these F-body V8 cars are next to nill in the junk yards....EG: .I had to have a global search done to find a 153 tooth flywheel and cost me $350 by the time it was in my garage. So mysely and I am guessing alot of other people here are searching for some altermatives other than (JUNK YARD) sometimes.</p>

your going to run into a problem running a standard f body oil pan.. the dipstick is on the drivers side on pre 80's small blocks.. the post 80's are on the passenger side.
i am in the middle of swapping a 1971 400 sbc into my camaro right now.. .

Re: Engine out of truck
ok, on the trucks 72 was the last year for the short old style water pump
for cars it was 68 thjat was the last year
the truck power steering pump mounted realyl super low before 73 and the bracket ran from the pump back to the engine mount
it will not fit or work in the cars
you can tell if it is the stock correct 72 older brackets still if it runs back to the engine mount, and if the other bracket is cast iron that cradles the pump housing

and in 1980 the p/s pump fittings changed from flared style to the new o ring style, the hoses ends too
same year that the dipstick moved to the other side of the block(driverside)
the oil pans were 55-79, 80-85, and 86-95, and are same car and truck, dont let anyone tell you they differ, because they dont
i will buy the truck power steering pump setup from you if you ask a reasonable price
or trade you parts i have for sale/trade? i have all kinds and some i posted with pics in the exterior parts for sale board
