Is anyone aware of this? - (Motor mounts)

It doesn't matter what way they get bolted on the engine the holes still line up with the clam shells previsions and you can slide the bolt in. there seems to be about 1 to 2 inches of play with the engine and transmisson
it can either go left or right. i found this out when i installed long tubes, when i first put them in the left (drivers side) one of the primaries was barely hitting the a-arm. later i ended up pulling the engine out i disregarded to mark the mouts that where on the engine since they appeared to be the same, when i got done swapping in the engine i put the motor mounts on the opposite side of the engine (searching and reading other post) i found that most people who install long tubes have more problems on the right (passengers side)
with the a-arm, so this seems to be what would be most likely the way they where bolted on stock? i have noted that with the primary touching the right side, the transmission pan is almost touching the tranny tunnel and the tranny lines are very close to the tranny tunnel as well it also looks very hard to make a bend for a pipe to come out and down and around the lower sub frame rail and past the tranny cross brace on the right side of the collector,
versus how i had the engine mounts originally everything was nice and clear and only one of the left primaries was barley touching the left a-arm has anyone else note this?

The only way you could get 1-2" of play is if your inserts are completely shot.

There is a difference between the left & right of the engine side mounts, but I've never been able to figure out why. I've set them side-by-side, end-to-end, ran a straight edge across the mount holes and looked through the "pin" bolt hole, done everything but switch them and try to mount the engine (no time for that), all I can see is the ears are different on one side vs. the other (probably an alignment thing for the factory - but I don't really know).

If you have the engine out and don't change out the sagging rubber stock inserts for poly, as far as I'm concerned, any problems you have you deserve.

Well, at least change the OE sagging rubber mounts for new, not-yet-sagged rubber mounts.

New, not-yet-sagged rubber mounts are sure to become, what?

Right, sagging rubber mounts.

correct, they will sag. but it will take another ten years. replacing rubber mounts with NEW rubber mounts is fine.

that said, it is only a little bit more to get poly, they look better, they last longer. and we are all forgetting the best reason... they come in red.

No way poly mounts should have 1-2 inches of play.

Unless I misunderstand where you're observing this play.

it doesnt make sense... You cant switch those mounts.. How are you getting that much play?? And if your trans pan is almost hitting the tunnel i think you have problems... such as that thing has been hit before. Because it doesnt sound like any of your driveline lines up.. Prolly why your long tubes dont fit either.
