Hey I know you lol. What are your plans to get it running or something fast? That there can limit are your engine choice.
LSx/T-56 combo or LTx/T-56 Combo are the best. Stuck on a V6? Your option are 3.8L and 4.3L which are 90*. Note Gen I 3800 are easyer to install compared to Gen II. 3.4L would bolt right in and your car can be running again soon. note that 5spd is garbage more or less a heavy paper weight. Oh of course the BBC.

Technically it would be the biggest BBC you could find, because sbc and bbc use the same bellhousing flange, and the T5 from the V6 will bolt to the V8 bellhousing. Though it would probably last about .002 seconds behind a powerful bbc
Just noticed you said "biggest V6 it bolts to" technically thats the 4.3 V6 using the V8 bellhousing, and using the housing he has it would be the 3800 as they use the same bellhousing flange as the 2.8/3.1/3.4

Typically you take the transmission out then the bellhousing during removal, so its no extra work.

since 89chevyrs and I live close to each other. We've been talking about the engine for a while now. What ECM is need for the 4.3L? 89chevyrs does the car have the factory engine harness and ECM or this going to be carbed?

That really depends on what 4.3 you are using. And what you have available to you. Im sure you could make it work easily with the V6 3.1 7730, custom programming would be required, as well as a decent multiport intake, but those arent too hard to get due to the syclone / typhoon market. The CPI setups would probably require their specific ecu.

4.3 V6 would be more work than putting in a V8, since no mounts are available to bolt in for this combination.
Either get a 60 degree V6 (3.1 or 3.4l), or do a regular small block Chevy V8.
Choosing the engine based on the transmission in there now is the path to frustration and disappointment. And, in all likelihood, more expense.
