95 350
Im looking into buying a 95 350 with 80k miles. Its been wrapped up and sitting on an engine stand for 3 years. I dont have the casting numbers but i was wondering if this year motor came with decent factory cylinder heads?

Do you know what it came out of. A truck? If so the trucks still had TBI in 95. Heads probably aren't anything speical. Also may have a flat tappet cam. In 96 the trucks went to vortec heads and a roller cam.

I believe it was out of a truck. I will probably just put headers on it and thats it for now. Cause its still gonna be more power than what im use to lol. I was planning on just putting a new intake manifold on and making it a carbed motor. How bad are the flat tappet cams?

It's not that flat tappet cams are bad. Rollers are more desireable though because they have a broader torque curve and better mileage. As for the heads, it depends on the casting number. This should show you what the engine and heads are from.

If you find out what heads they are, I might be able to tell you a little more.

I dont have the casting numbers but im thinking the top end most be pretty restrictive. the 1995 350's were only rated at 210 horse. so im def gonna have to get some new heads. I wanna be up over 300 horse.

Vortec heads, and a LT1 cam should put it over 300hp. Some of the flat tappet blocks from the time had provisions for a rolloer cam. You can find a lot of the parts cheap on ebay. Summit and jegs have some good prices to. If it's a roller, another good cam choice is the comp xr252. Good mileage, and enough torque for stoplight to stoplight, but it's not that good higher up. The power falls off quick, but it even works well with 2.73 gears.

If it's from a truck or full size passenger car, it has swirl port heads. You can get 300 HP out of them, but it's a bit of a task. Passenger car would have roller lifters.
If it came out of an F-body or Vette, it will be an LT1, in which case it should be installed as an LT1.

Re: 95 350
Ok got the motor today. Seems to have good compression we could barely budge the harmonic balancer untill we took afew plugs out. the numbers on the heads is 14102193. I looked it up and it said used on 87 and up 305/350. 1.94''/ 1.5 valves. Since they were also used on 305's im thinking i should get rid of the them or atleast tear them down and clean them. the majority of the ports were closed off and the motor was wrapped in plastic but from looking inside the heads it looks alil dirty.

193 heads are swirl ports. They're okay for a low-RPM engine, just depends what you're looking for whether or not to use them.
