Intake questions

Hey guys Im building a 350 right now, the heads have numbers 140101081 k207 Im assuming those are "081" heads that everyone talks about? The intake Im planning to use is a holley weiand 7546 topped with a edelbrock performer 1405 which is a 600cfm carb. Will the intake bolt up to the heads or will I have to elongate the middle holes?

The intake will bolt to the heads, but unless you have a pretty big cam, a lot of stall, and steep gears, it isn't a very good choice.

The carb wouldn't be a very good choice in that situation. It wouldn't be my choice in any situation, but that's another story.

Re: Intake questions

I already had this intake and carb which is why I was going to run it. What cam would run good with this setup and not require machine work?

Not much. That's an aggressive intake, and it requires an aggressive cam with a lot of lift.

Re: Intake questions

I was reading the specs on the intake it requires a cam with 260 duration @.50. If not I would have to get a divider plate. As long as the cam I get has less than .470 of lift I dont have to machine the heads right? Im thinking of running this cam with a divider plate. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku

Re: Intake questions

What pistons do you have in that engine? You really should find out what your compression ratio will be, as its really easy to get it too high with the small chamber 305 heads on a 350. They are pretty good heads, just have to be careful to keep things like CR reasonable.

Go to Google and look for 'compression ratio calculator' and put in your engine's info, and make sure you're still 'in the ballpark' so to speak. Those heads have a pretty good chamber design, and aren't really detonation prone like some others, so as long as you can keep it at or below 10.5:1 you should be ok. Those heads are 58cc btw.

I ran a set of '601' castings with 53cc chambers on my 350 for awhile, and it was really on the ragged edge... I was always playing with the timing to keep the pinging under control on a hot day (compression was well over 11:1 with my combo). Ran like a raped-ape though!

As for the cam... in a carb'd application with 10-10.5 CR I would suggest the Comp Cams XE274. Its a big cam, but its still a pretty civilized cam... idles a little choppy, but still idles well, and makes good power from about 2000 rpm and up. Thats what I have in my 350 right now.

Re: Intake questions

Their just stock flat top pistons. I was also looking at the Edelbrock performer plus 2102 cam, which is the one I think im going to go with. I just have to put a divider plate in the intake.

Peaky intake + peaky cam = really peaky engine.

You can do a lot better on the cam.

Re: Intake questions

Around .460 or so is the safe limit.

Re: Intake questions

Ordered my cam, gaskets, oil pan, and distributer tonight. Also got the divider plate for the intake. The cam I went with was a Lunati 60101LK. Got it brand new off ebay for almost $100.00 cheaper than I could off summit.
