Engine: L92/LQ4 (both w/4" stroke)
Transmission: 4L80E/4L80E
Axle/Gears: 12B-3.73/9"-3.89
Which is the "better" engine, or which is "better" for swapping?
It's really an open-ended question. Without doubt, a basic 383 would be easier and less expensive than the LS1, and would take any 3rd gen or LT1 transmission.
From a long-term standpoint, it's hard to beat the LSx series engines. You have to use a transmission made or adapted for the engines, though.
