Anyone install their Motor and K-Mem together from Under - ala 4th gen style
I have to replace my motor mounts and need to drop the a-arms to do so before installing my rebuilt motor. I talked with some 4th genners about how nice it is to drop 4 bolts off the k-member and everything comes right out. I would love to install all the accessories, headers, etc and pull the motor in from the bottom. Just wondering if anyone has done this and their advice.
?s How high does the car have to be up and will standard jackstands be sufficient. Should I attach the trans as well? What to use to slide the motor under the car?
Once it is under the car, I would figure that I would just use the engine hoist, and a jack under the trans if installed together, and raise it up, bolt in the k-member and x-member.
I tried a search and only came up with something from CobraKilla92Z saying that he installed his this way.
Thanks in Advance!

When I joined this Board, I had already completed my swap. I posed this question with reference to the V6 to V8 swap, saying it looked to me like the crossmember would unbolt and drop down. Being a low-post newbie, I was quickly put in my place (can't be done, I was told).
When the LSx swap started to become more popular, lo & behold a Board sponsor posts pictures of a 3rd gen project with the engine/tranny/crossmember dropped from below. But, what do I know.
It isn't exactly apples-to-apples to compare the job to the 4th gens, because their front suspension is all attached to the crossmember. But, other than that, it's a matter of what you're trying to accomplish by doing it that way.
You should be able to put the engine/trans/crossmember on a piano dolly (or two) to roll it under the car. The one I have is rated for 1000 lbs.
Oh, 4th gens don't have much choice. . .
