BBC Distributor pictures

Does anyone have a decent picture of what it took to get a coil-in-cap distributor in their 3rd gen? I'm almost ready to put my 454 in my 89 and wanted to see what some people did. Thanks!

Re: BBC Distributor pictures

I have herd different ideas from alot of people on this issue, I dont have any pics but I have seen some and they claim you might have to put a slight dent in the firewall. I used the small cap hei distributor with remote mount coil so I did not have to deal with this problem, but on my car there looks like there is plenty of room for it. just when you go to install the engine leave the cap off the distributor so you dont bust it! hope this helps

Thanks man. So its just the cap, not the base that you need to worry about? What year ignition did you go with?

Re: BBC Distributor pictures

Many years ago when I first installed a BBC, I just dropped a large cap HEI into the engine with no clearance problems.

No the base will fit with no problem, and I used the set-up from summit it came with thier small cap billit distributor, remote mount coil, and digital ignition box part#SUM-CSUM2751 for 329.95 a very good deal.

Re: BBC Distributor pictures

Thats good news then. Mine is old but I think its been updated. It has a magnetic pickup and an ignition module under the cap. Still vacuum advance though, i found that odd.

Ya, big cap HEI distributor fit right in. Now I'm having all sorts of header fitment problems. Gonna have you bring out the BFH to get the 3" collectors down to the bottom.
