LT1 Mamifold/Fuel System question

I am building a 1973 Chevy Heavy Duty Small Block for my 1988 Iroc-Z. I am putting Vortec cylinder heads on it. My buddy has an LT1 intake manifold with all the injectors and everything put together on it, a long with the wiring and ECM that he is willing to let me use. This manifold is off of a 1993 LT1 engine. My question is, can we make this work with the way the distributor is set up on the block I have? Also, will this work in my Iroc-Z?

Re: LT1 Mamifold/Fuel System question

The LT1 intake won't bolt up to the vortec heads.

You have to buy an intake base for tpi, miniram or stealth ram or complete intake especially for vortec heads.

The LT1 intake came off of an engine with aluminum vortec heads though.

That doesnt matter, the iron Vortec heads you are putting on your IROC dont have the proper 12 bolt hole pattern, even if they were drilled there would be a serious port mismatch.

I assume you are referring to the Fastburn aluminum Vortec style heads. They are drilled for both conventional 12 bolt intakes and 8 bolt Vortec intakes.
the only 12 bolt intake manifold that will bolt onto the FAsburn heads and have PROPER port alignment would be a 12 bolt Raised runner intake manifold.

A Ramjet intake would be another choice. I wouldnt switch to a higher flow head and then not have the ports line up properly, and very possibly have sealing issues.
Big difference than getting something to work, and having something working properly IMO.

While that is true, Edelbrock does make a vortec intake that will match up with my cast iron vortec heads. I've done my homework on that before i even purchased them. and if the intake the LT1 fuel system is currently attached to will not work for the application i need it to, then i will get the Edelbrock intake manifold, i know will.

Although the vortec heads are based on the LT1 heads, it still won't work. LT1 heads are not vortec heads.

And Edelbrock only makes two intakes one for the LT1 and the other for the LT4 and neither are made for the vortec heads.

#7107 and 7109 are designed to match #61909 and #61919 LT1 cylinder heads, but will also work with OEM LT1 and LT4 heads with minor head port matching.
Now they do have a vortec TPI base

Chevrolet 262-400 Small-Block V8
HIGH-FLO T.P.I. VORTEC BASEPLATE
TPI owners can now breathe easier with the introduction of our new High-Flo TPI base. This new intake allows any Corvette, Camaro, or Firebird owner to run the free flowing '96 and later GM cast iron Vortec heads, aluminum Fast Burn heads, or take advantage of the superior flow characteristics of our E-Tec series heads while still using the factory or aftermarket TPI system. It's compatible with all current OEM and aftermarket equipment, including the stock EGR valve, while still allowing the TPI Chevy to jump to the next level in performance. Match with High-Flo T.P.I. Runners listed below.

Re: LT1 Mamifold/Fuel System question

You might want to go to Edelbrock's website and look at the Performer RPM Air Gap Vortec Intake Manifold(Part number:7516). It will bolt up to to cast iron Vortec Cylinder heads. I already found out the answer to my question anyway, the LT1 intake dosn't offer any distributor clearance on my block anyway so that idea has gone out the window. Thanks for the help though.

Re: LT1 Mamifold/Fuel System question

The 7516 is a regular carb intake, you were talking about an LT1 intake.
